This thread's purpose is to bring to
light a couple of issues with the game, most importantly a balance issue called
malice. The game is superb and outstanding; and I love it, but there
remains a few quirks that get on my nerves.
List of issues:
-In chat lobby, every time a person joins, enters or leaves, the right-hand
player window resets and so does the chat window. It can be a pain in the
rear end to try to view a player or add them to your friends list under these
conditions.
-When fighting pirates, units tend to prioritize flak frigates as opposed to
the cruisers and frigates that are putting a beating on ur
capital ship. This can be bad early in the game. It makes the
player have to micro more when they really shouldn't need to
-Pirates attack counter is constant and is subject to player abuse. A
player that knows the exact time interval of a pirate attack, can dump credits
seconds before pirates are launched. This is being abused more and more,
and is hard to counter.
Now the main issue is this ability called Malice, which belongs to the
Progenitor. Early game it is mediocre, however in late game it is quite
overpowered. Now to get a good picture of the situation: take 2 massive
fleets and have them duke it out, with neither of them containing progenitors.
The battle will ensue for a dozen minutes at least. Now if u take the 2
same fleets and place a couple progenitors with level 3 malice in one fleet,
the battle between the two fleets will last only a couple minutes max.
This is not an exaggeration. I've had people on multiple occasions just
cry out in disbelief at how fast my fleet just destroyed theirs.
A quick description of what malice does: it takes a percentage of damage done
to a unit and turns it into splash damage. Imagine what a whole fleet does
under the above conditions. Now imagine that it is not a level 6 ability,
it does not require more than 100 antimatter, and its cheap enough to
spam. It is of course far more effective against frigates than cruisers,
but it still wipes the floor clean of cruisers no doubt. By having a large enough fleet focus firing
on a single target (preferably a cap ship)
you pretty much guarantee any frigates within a radius (the radius
certainly isn’t that small) to be instantly fried within seconds and cruisers
to follow suit soon.
This ability is unbelievable. Now I won’t claim that it isn’t counterable,
but it is sure hard as hell to stop it. And
if you think killing the mothership first will help. Ask yourself this, do you think your fleet
can kill a cap ship faster than the equivalent fleet can destroy most of your
frigates (malice propagates 30% damage I believe at level 3). What if there are multiple progenitors? The best solution ingame to deal with it is
any anti-antimatter abilities, however how easy it is to neuter these
motherships of their antimatter depends entirely on the race and the situation.
