Extremely encouraging to hear this; it also happens to prove once and for all that the majority of this discussion, having been born out of a troll's comment, is completely irrelevant to the OP's original point. It counts as a lesson to me, at least, that if a troll comes on, the best thing to do is to ignore it. A troll isn't worth most people's attention, and we should learn that.

I've gone on long enough

sometimes pirate attacks can be a pain, but you can easily win the single player scenarios if you play properly. this is a strategy game, and every ship you build, every structure you build, has to have a purpose, especially early on. you don't want to build things or do researches you don't need or won't use much. early in the game it is important to scout, and capture as many neutral planets and resources as possible, as fast as possible. usually there is only 2-5 ships in each planet at the beginning of every level. you have enough resources to build 10 small freighters, a scout or two, and a colony ship right from the beginning. that is enough to take at least 2-3 colonies before you need to do any upgrades or worry about defense (although you may want to upgrade your emergency facilities early on so you have time to jump back before any attackers can steal your planet), by then you should have resources enough to build more ships and do upgrades on defense and offense structures, along with a few research labs and researches. I could go on and on about strategies.

If you're getting your butt kicked, you try harder next time not to. the AI always gives you a chance to make allies if you help them out when they ask and if you build structures like trade ports or broadcast centers (except pirates). and you can't jump into their systems unless you have a peace treaty. even then you might need to restrain your ships from accidentally attacking them. even a scout can be seen as hostility. usually if there is 1 AI Empire, it is easy to make friends, then both of you go kick pirate butt. 2 AI's, and you need to pick your side carefully, and stick with that side if you can. the only problem is you never know which side is stronger or will have more ships early on, unless one side has all kinds of asteroid fields surrounding it. so whenever they ask for help, you help them, work your way to become allies, then bully the other empire and the pirates..and even put a bounty on that empire.

I know what you mean. Most recent game, playing as Vasari and teched up to RA quickly and cleared up around the star I started in. For some reason I quit then and haven't gone back to it. Perhaps it is because I know I am going to win and don't fancy spending 4 hours or more going through the motions.

and i never had a bigger fleet then my enemy and i still win so its not true that

ive played a lot of multi player games and its always the same thing. hell if u think im crap at the game we can play a game sometime and see who needs to learn about tactics...

It takes 5 Advent fighter squadrons with all the laser upgrades to kill a fully armored TEC constructor frigate with all it's hull upgrades in one pass. A fully upgraded planet will be operating 7 of these constructors. So if they keep respawning, won't it be amazingly hard even for a human to keep killing off these things faster than they can build turrets?

If someone is operating a fully upgraded defense array of 31 turrets in a tight ring with 2 repair platforms, then any ship trying to shoot the constructors would get hammered by the turrets, and the attacker would have to divert up to 35 fighter squads to keep these things down constantly. If the fighters are not present or are engaged in more important tasks, then knocking out the defense ring would be a very slow process. It takes 10 fully upgraded Advent Bomber Squadrons(meaning 70 bombers) ~40 seconds(3 passes) to demolish 1 fully upgraded Gauss Turret, and that turret can be resurrected in 50 seconds if the constructor isn't killed.

So knocking out a turret fortification to the point where a siege is viable without would either require a very large force(with at least as many heavy cruisers as there are turrets) or a hell of a lot of time, especially if a fleet is there too.

It sounds like you are one of those people who need constant self satisfaction every time and when you don't get that enough you whine like an friggin emo who got rejected. I might be wrong with the last part, Sl4vik you must really played for a while damn I bet the number of games you played is under 10 and for some reason you strike me a console fanboi. I bet both you would whinge if the game was imbalanced or there was a small bug, but since the game is slow and verusing the AI is predictable maybe this game might not be for you and maybe you should invest your interested in another community where simple minds can run free.

Bob, the races are not the same. Ship classes may be the same for all, but for each race they work differently. I don't think the guardian vessel (shield extending) and the robotics cruiser are the same ? Just an example. Then there are more subtle variations in damage types, armor types and firing arks between ships of the same class of different races.

Also you say you are good yet all battles are the same ? Do you counter what your enemy is doing and do you micro your fleet ? These 2 factors alone make every battle different for me. If you do the same for every battle, once you meet a skilled player that counters your fleet, you lose badly.

To the OP : Take your time to learn the game then join multiplayer games, the AI is very stupid once you have learned to play.

LOL... CoH needs micro-ing because units will sit there and get shot in the back. Sins micro-ing isn't necessary to fight, but necessary to win.

CoH is a great game, but Sins is much deeper.
