My First Game...Several Questions

I have played my first game and I have a question.

This was a two player game (me against one AI), and I must say I like the game overall.

At one point in the game I owned every inhabitable planet other than the one the pirates controlled. I struggled from the very start with a low Fleet Supply. I upgraded every planet I controlled, and was trying my best to research both Civilian and Military Tech Trees.

I built one Capital Ship (fully upgraded) and Frigates as needed (about a total of 6-8). My entire fleet consisted of about 8-10 ships at it high point.

The problem is when I jumped into the Pirated homeworld, I was greeted by about 50-75 ships. They had one planet, little income, very little Metal or Minerals, but had a fleet I had o way of competing with.

Here are the questions.

1. How can I own everything and still have so little Fleet Supply?

2. How can the Pirates have so little and have such a high fleet supply?

3. How can I increase my Fleet Supply in the game?

4. What are the Researches (if any) needed to gain Fleet Supply?

5. How can I kill/scrape ships I no longer want (e.g. Colonizers)?

6. Do Point Defense Turrets count against Fleet Supply?

7. What was I doing wrong?

Two other things...

1. Is there a way to focus on a ship or object (not Ctrl-Left Click) that will then follow that object until you chose to stop it?

2. Are there set zoom levels that can be quickly jumped to so you do not end up watching little Icons a lot of the time?

1) You need to upgrade it, 2000 is the max

2) Pirates are just NPCs, and spawn random ships for their raids, but they do add defenders as the game progresses.
3) "Fleet Logistics" research tab on the research screen

4) The fleet logistics research isn't tied into any others, but it is progressive so you need to start from the bottom and work your way up.
5) Alt+H (also the orange striped button below the unit portrait)
6) Nope, they count against the Tactical Point limit for your individual planets.

For other things:

1) Space bar is the focus key in Sins.
2) Z, X, C are the zoom level keys

1, 3-4. Supply is not based on planet upgrades as in the beta; Research new levels of supply in the Logistics section of the research screen.

2. Pirates are a game mechanic as much as an enemy (if not more). They're not limited by supply, rather they spawn numbers of ships based on bounty levels and the amount of development in the galaxy.

5. Press Alt-H or the orange button below the portrait box.

6. No, defense structures only count against that planet's tactical slots (upgradeable in the planet upgrades menu).

7. Pirates don't need to be defeated in order to win. Though if you do choose to do that, you will want to upgrade your fleet supply so you can go in with a goodly sized force.

yes, fleet research has it's own research sector now.

i have to say, it takes some serious skills to overtake all those planets without ever upgrading your fleet supply!!

Thank you guys for the replies; they are most helpful.

After posting I figured out the little Yellow striped bar for the scuttle command. I wish you could group scuttle though.

Odd that I think I have searched the entire solar system and only found a pirate base if they are the NPCs of the game. I will have to check again, but I think there are no others.

There should be only 1 base yea.

Pirates aren't a problem later on when you have 50+ fleet with 3-4 motherships supporting. I normally just let them attack whoever at that point in game. They have no bigger ships so they're easy targets. I even like them to attack myself to gain levels for my newer mothership. Destroying their base eliminates them forever and you can even colonize the base. But it's more of a burden than it helps because we can only upgrade its defense and not economy. The base comes with 6500HP without upgrade tho so it maybe worth using as beit for opponets to strike, I don't know.
