I read on here that the way you set the difficulty in Campaign Mode is to go into Quick Play mode, play at a difficulty level, then go back to Campaign Mode and your difficulty will be at whatever you played last in Quick Play mode. I'm going to restrain myself from saying anything about this design decision. Instead I want to say: it doesn't work.
I started a custom campaign with candidate X (Republican). Played a campaign, using auto-save feature, won election, lost all progress. (I understand the situation here.) This first game was at Beginner difficulty, apparently because my first Quick Game was at Beginner.
So now I have to replay candidate X versus Wesley Clark. First I go into Quick Play mode and play an entire election as Kerry at Normal Difficulty. Now I go back to Campaign Mode and play as Candidate X versus Wesley Clark. I win handily. At the end it informs me that I was at Beginner difficulty.
Problems:
---wrong difficulty
---there's no way to see what difficulty you are playing at until the election is over (?)
Is it going to be possible to every play Candidate X at Normal Difficulty, or is he "stuck" at Beginner? Is he stuck at Beginner because when I created him my last Quick Play game was at beginner? Because the first time I played with him it defaulted to Beginner? (Even though that game was "lost" to the auto-save bug?) Because it just doesn't work and all campaign games are at Beginner difficulty?
This is all version 1.0. I have downloaded the patch. I saw nothing about Campaign Difficulty settings in the readme. Did I miss something or did you?
