Ive used it in 75% of the games ive played. I used it in a 2v2 on Flashpoint today. The asteroid linking my homeworld to the enemy homeworld , I felt needed inhibiting after I saw a contigent of Krosovs at his homeworld ready to move in on that asteroid.
My fleet was stationed at a different location.

I like the old ones.... I only used the new ones in one game and I didnt liked the new way... so I didnt used them since.

I stopped using it since it stopped HOLDING fleets at a planet. In my world, it would have 300 antimatter, once the enemy arrives it kicks in holding the enemy there until the antimatter wears out, say 5 min max.

Unless it's a big map and you spend half an hour chasing a marza from planet to planet as it uses the special ability to rapidly knock off large amounts of your population and infrastructure.

I rather like being able to secure my inner worlds from harm, the problem I think is that hangars are so damn cheesy with 16-20 bombers knocking capital ships out before they can even turn around that no one bothers with a real defensive structure centered around it. You can really hang someone up in a place with enough gauss platforms and repair stations around the pji. Unfortunately you can blow anything dangerous away before it crosses regardless of how much air defense they have. Hangars are better at forcing you to attack a planet than pji's are. Even an asteroid will be able to house enough hangars to guarantee at least one capital ship dropping unless they take the time to wipe out your bombers before they send the big guns through.

Sending in a group of flak frigates to wipe them out first takes time, the same thing a pji does. It's a delaying factor in your bypassing of the system to hit a core world. They are tactically the same effect. The question is not who needs strategy, the question is who needs a pji when bombers accomplish the same end result by requiring a tactical delay before moving through that allows responding fleets that much more time to arrive.

... Amazing. Such a large number of people, yet so few get the simple fact that PJI's are most assuredly a useful -- and often used! -- tool. I never build a defensive position without them (covered by multiple repair centers and gauss cannons!)

Properly used, they force the enemy to engage and destroy your defenses before moving on. Do I really need to explain why thats a Very Good Thing?

If i use the tactical slots for another group of gauss cannons then it doesn't matter if they et slowed down or not because the damamge the take going through the line is large enough that by the time the hit thier desired destination they are seriously cut down in strength. What would you rather have, more guns or something that slows you down?

I'd rather have less guns, and something that stops the enemy, forcing them to come to me

PJI's are what MAKES turrets useful, more so than any other "trick" I know of. You can guarantee, with 100% certainty, that if the enemy wants past that star system he must take out your PJI... and if you have sufficient fighter cover (to take out enemy bombers and missiles), that means he must engage your turrets.

I think there's the problem... these guys don't defend their PJI's

if I managed my gauss cannons, then I was able to reduce LARGE fleets very very quickly, even if they were just passing through. IF you set up your cannons in certain order you can hit tmost ships alomst anywhere in a grav well.

Unless your in a LARGE game with many oppenants who have large fleets, i find PJI to expensive for R&D and then to build is a waste of space. If you know your going to be playing someone you can roll over in an hr whats the point?

Im guessing tactics and strategy is not common but excessive spamming is? Like Ron said, Force the enemy to come to you, none of my defenses protect the jump points, they are all around my planet. To pass, they MUST destroy my PI, to destroy my PI they need to contecnt with 20 odd turrents hangers and repair centers.

If I see I might have a problem with my defenses there is always a fleet ready to jump in from a adjacent system.

exactly, I don't want the old one back either, but rather a hybrid of what we have now and what we did have, i am sick and tired of enemies retreating their whole fleets as soon as they lose a capital ship...
