I know there are other threads for these ideas, but they are quite far away in the forum, and I dare no dabble in necrobloggancy, so I'll simply post my ideas here:
There have been some (not-so-slight) complaints about the lack of fundemental difference between the TEC and the Vasuris gameplay, here are a few toughs:
First, the axioms:
1) The Vasuris are on the more. They are fleeing, they do not settle in a peticular area of space for long
2) They are uber-advanced. They don't have time to research technologies, but so what? Their technology can outclass pretty much anything they encounter.
There have been some very nice propositions about moving refineries, and colony-ships where you actually hold your population (and can move it in case of trouble). I have a few other nuggets I hope will be considered:
First, I find it a little silly that a millenium-old culture can research new technolgies in the timeframe of a single game. On the other hand, it would make total sense if this uber-advanced race required a lot of ressource and time to actually impliment those technologies. Which means no "research tree" à la TEC, but rather slow building-by-building tech development. Let me explain:
- For example, any upgrades made to ships. You do not have to research the technology and then, BAM, it's installed on every ships. Instead, The Vasuri would require to upgrade an existing factory, and all the ships created in the future by this factory will already contain the proper upgrades. Obsolete ships (or ships built in un-upgraded factories) can go to the higher-grade factory for a refit, at no cost (only time).
If you want to reach the far-end of the tech tree (by uber-upgrading a single factory), you can loose a lot if that single factory is destroyed.
But let's keep in mind the "Moving" philosophy of the Vasuri. A single factory can detach all the "upgrade modules" in case of attack, and move those modules to another planet (or system) to graft it to a "new" factory, allowing building the end-tier ships without having to rebuild every single upgrades. Such "Moving-modules" could be included in any upgrades.
- Planetary upgrades
Modules could be built by specific high-tech factories, and those modules would be deployed on planets. Like a shield generators, any "civilian" upgrade would have to by implimented planet by planet. Off course, you can always re-deploy modules when a planet does not require one anymore.
- Crew for Cap Ships.
The Vasuri probably have a stretched population, so they can't hire as much crew as they would like. That is why they must clone the same cap. ship crew in specific cloning facilities.
You have to build your crews (spending the appropriate ressource). However, when your cloning facilities is sufficiently upgraded, you can request the highest-level Capital Ship to get memory imprints, which will be transferred in the next clone generation.
