Even tho some ppl were quitting quite fast, this was one of the best games ive ever had in sins
And probably the only one of its kind to date!
A few things that come to my head thinking about it (in increasing importance):
DarthDiddler, Multianna, and myself were (very) badly placed by the map generator. Multi was easily isolated from her allies, while myself and Darth had to fight to decide who could receive support from our allies, and who would end up left to wither on the vine. Additionally, everyone started in one system which (effectively) made it a one star instead of multi-star game.
Darth lost his flagship early, but should not have quit. Had he stuck around, instead of the AI, he could have caused me massive headaches had I supported Multianna and Happy instead of protecting my own empire, and crushing his. Since he quit, I could effectively ignore his world until the situation was in hand on the other fronts. In team games, its actually possible to continue being a power
after loosing your flagship, even in early game. This is a huge improvement over 1V1s and FFAs, where that is not the case.
Teamwork won this game for my side, and killed it for our opponents. My side co-operated, and worked together, and thats how we killed our opponents. Had our opponents co-operated -- P5y helping his allies out rather than "being bored" and quiting, putting unified, co-ordinated assaults against multiple targets, etc etc -- they could have killed us. The others could have "fed" DarthDiddler resources, making him a nasty thorn in my side even though he didn't have the worlds to provide him with much resources, while his allies could have stopped us from rolling down their worlds one by one with a "mega-fleet".
Don't quit like P5Y just because you didn't get your way (he wanted a smaller, single-system map), you might miss out on one
heck of a game.
Edit:
Oh, and while I obviously can't be sure, I'm willing to bet that this was the
very first game of its kind ever played in Sins -- a 4V4 over the internet, that is. The devs may have done stuff in house, but we're the first players to have done it.
And boy was it fun!
