This makes me wounder, how they are gonna protect the game from pirats. When the same key can be used servel times.
Guess it only protects against, them from going online then?

Prolly, but I will be uber mad if anyone can download and get the game online once its out in retail. Piracy is part of life , but I at least want to deny them multiplayer and any updates...

I have 3 pc's in my house , so it will be nice to test the Beta on Vista and my 2 XP boxes, to see the differences. Each PC is about 3 years apart, so I will see just how well the game scales to the provided hardware...

SD says this about pirate protection.

Honest people are going gona buy the game regardless, and pirates are going to pirate the game anyways. In the end the game protection will just annoy your custommers and lose you a lot more sales than a few pirates.

Or at least I think so.

The beta uses our online activation system. We know which keys are available and track their use, so if someone tries to use the same key too many times, it's locked out.

so i pre-ordered the the cd-rom version of the game and i had a question about it. come release day for the game will i be able to download the "download only" version of the game while i wait for my cd-rom copy to arrive in the mail? sorta like how you can predownload hl2 off steam then buy a copy from a store and use the key from your retail copy to activate the download version.

i guess im kinda impatient

IIRC it's cd-rom and digital download, where the other option is digital download only... So I suspect you can DL it and save the unopened box forever
